Production Company seeks to employ theatre group

Cluain Gheal Productions was set up to produce The Great Hunger, the first full-length stage play that breaks the 177 year old silence on the famine.  This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a theatre group to stage the most important story in Irish history which sadly remains untold.  We have already raised the finance, carried out a successful workshop to test the script and are now seeking to go to the next stage which is to test the play in front of a live audience with the intention of transferring to a city or large town.

Breaking the silence

It is a remarkable fact that in all the 177 years since the famine, only one full-length play has ever been staged.  A more remarkable fact is that the play excluded the political and historical background and was severely criticised by its own writer.  Up to now the full story has remained untold. Your theatre group can help to finally break this long silence by staging The Great Hunger.

Theatre Group

You are a small, medium or large amateur or professional theatre group.  You would welcome the opportunity to stage and test this culturally important new play in front of a live audience.  The play is easy to stage and uses minimal sets and props and can be staged on a small, medium or large space.

“There was much that we admired about your play.  The characterisation is in parts beautifully conjured especially in the scenes between Fidelity and James.  Their brief exchanges and interactions suggest such a deep well of emotion between them and helps the audience to really believe in their love story.  It is particularly tender and touching to witness this love story amid such devastation and sadness across the rest of the play.  The dialogue is authentic and realistic and conveys both the setting and context of the time period.”
