SYNOPSIS
In The Text young nonbinary adult Cal takes a trip to a seaside town to reflect on their recent meeting with a partner’s parents.
Cal is a young non binary AFAB person who is in a relationship with Nate and Aoife. Cal spends the day at a seaside village ruminating on their first interaction with Nate’s conservative and apparently queerphobic parents. Throughout the day Cal listens to music and takes in the world around them. However their day keeps getting interrupted by flashbacks to the meeting. During these flashbacks Nate’s parents, the O’Dohertys, become more aggressively bigoted with their words and body language. Whilst remembering these interactions Cal becomes more and more withdrawn into themself, culminating in their suicide.

CHARACTERS NEEDED
Cal – (18-35, Non Binary AFAB)
A 20-something year old nonbinary AFAB person who loves music and their two polyamorous partners AOIFE and NATE. They have always struggled with their depression and their recent run in with Nate’s parents is doing nothing to help that black pit.

Nate/Nathaniel – (18-35, Man)
A 20-something year old man. A bisexual young man who is trying to appease his bigoted parents whilst living his most authentic life. Nate used to be religious but left the church after finding it in conflict with his sexuality.

Mrs O’Doherty – (50+, woman)
Nate’s mother, an upper-middle class woman in her 50s. Mrs O’D is very conservative and religious. She is struggling to accept her son’s sexual identity and relationships.

Mr O’Doherty/Dad O’D – (50+, man)
Nate’s father, an upper-middle class man in his 50s. Mr O’D is very conservative and goes along with his wife’s religion. Unlike his wife, Mr O’D outright rejects Nate’s sexuality.

Aoife (Non Speaking Role) – (18-35, woman)
Nate and Cal’s partner. A 20-something year old woman.
