The company works at Dalkey Castle in pursuit of its mission. It is supported by the Community Services Programme (CSP) of Department of Rural and Community Development, administered by Pobal.

There are currently seven members of staff covering performance, production, research, administration and artistic direction.

The Board of Deilg Inis is looking to appoint a motivated and focused full time Manager who will have the appropriate skills, energy and drive to manage the company.

Salary : €32,000 pa.

Qualifications / Experience

Essential

  • Management experience either in large or small companies for five years
  • Good demonstrable financial management and reporting experience
  • Good verbal communication and mediation skills
  • Experience of working in theatre or with theatre practitioners
  • Familiarity with CSP or other funding programmes

Desirable

  • Strong interest in history/heritage and its adaptation into ‘product’ -living history
  • Good local history knowledge
  • Acting or Directing or Devising experience
  • Script writing or script editing experience
  • Experience of running rehearsals
  • Familiarity with Equity practices
  • Strong written communications skills
  • An ability to work well as part of a creative team

 

Duties and responsibilities

In association with the board to manage the staff and the company’s affairs

Staff :

  • To oversee all hiring, draft all contracts, carry out performance reviews, manage any disciplinary matters
  • To support the development of the actors’ and administrator’s skills as per CSP* requirements.
  • To implement a thorough training programme and monitor staff development & performance, with attention to Equity practices and procedures
  • To implement programmes with creativity and imagination in interpretation, ensuring a thorough research method has been employed
  • To allocate and oversee all research into historical periods by actors and check its authenticity
  • To ensure current employment legislation in relation to equality of opportunity, safety, hours of employment, holiday and maternity entitlements are fully adhered to.
  • To monitor the performance of the actors in role
  • To liaise with the client to ensure expectations are being met.
  • To procure new writing when required
  • To oversee adjustments to existing scripts when required.

The Company

To manage the company’s affairs with the funder (Pobal) outside agencies and clients

  • To oversee accurate financial reporting and funding / tax returns
  • To work with the board and the administrator to secure and develop the resource base of the company
  • To oversee the Living History programmes delivered to Dalkey Castle
  • To oversee the programmes that target DEIS schools.
  • To actively promote an on-going programme for the local elderly community as part of an outreach programme
  • To oversee in conjunction with Dalkey Castle an in-house programme for elderly participants with regard to Pobal Deprivation index.
  • To pursue new funding possibilities, when possible
  • To further develop the existing repertoire and initiate new work

*Purpose of CSP funding: “To fund the delivery of the ‘Living History’ Programme and Literary events to Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, which involves researching characters from various periods in history and bringing them to life through re-enactments. The programmes are delivered to schools (targeting DEIS schools), the local elderly community as part of an outreach programme and to visitors of Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre”.
